Tumeric is a spice that is known to be helpful in treating a wide variety of health problems that people face. Tumeric itself contains a bunch of compounds called curcuminoids. The most important and the most studied of the curcuminoids is curcumin. While you can take curcumin as a supplement many experts suggest that taking turmeric is even more benficial because you get the other potential beneficial components of the spice as well.
Curcumin is known to be a potent anti inflammatory that is effective for treating arthritis and joint inflammation. In fact, in one study curcumin was found to be as effective as the anti inflammatory medication phenylbutazone. It works well because if it’s ability to lower histadine levels.
Curcumin is also used to in the treatment of cancer. There is at least 30 studies which show that curcumin has a anti-tumour effect- either reducing the number or size of tumours or the percentage of animals that developed them. I’m not saying it’s a cure but there is no reason to believe why it wouldn’t be effective when combined with other therapies.
Curcumin also has a positive effect on cholesterol and has powerful antioxidant properties as well. Curcumin is seen as antiaging as it inhibits lipid peroxidation.
Curcumin’s ability to lower inflammation and becuase of it’s antioxidant properties make it good for protecting the liver. One study in the Journal of Toxicology showed that curcumin demonstrated significant liver protection in male rats largely through it’s antioxidant properties. It has been used by many doctors to help treat hepatitis and has been shown to lower elevated liver enzymes. It is also used in different detoxification processes in the body.
Tumeric is a really easy spice to use as you can put it on almost any food and it will taste great! Some people even mix it with water and apply it topically for various skin ailments.
So next time you are at the store, I would recommend picking up some tumeric, then start experimenting with trying it with different foods. If you want to take the easier route you can just buy curcumin in supplement supplement form. Whichever the case, I would highly recommend you take it…if you want a healthier body!
